Colon and Lung Cancer Laboratory The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is one of Australia’s leading medical research institutes, with over 600 scientists, students and support staff.  We pioneer study into the most widespread diseases affecting our community today, including cancer, neurodegenerative and mental diseases, disorders of the immune system, diabetes and obesity, osteoporosis and other skeletal disorders.
 Our Colon and Lung Cancer Laboratory  is currently seeking a full time Postdoctoral Research Officer to join their team for an initial 12 month contract. The Postdoctoral Research Officer will be responsible for developing the research into the molecular mechanisms of colon cancer, in particular the functional consequences of the recently discovered tumour suppressor gene ‘Mutated in Colorectal Cancer’ (MCC). In addition, this role will contribute to studying the genomic basis of radiotherapy responsiveness of colorectal cancer and implementing Next Gen sequencing in lung and colorectal cancer.
The work will involve using both mouse and cell culture models and the application of cutting edge molecular, biochemical and cell biology techniques. 
Successful applicants will have proven skills and experience in:  * A PhD in molecular biology, cell biology or biochemistry * Good and up to date knowledge of cancer biology or cancer genetics literature * Protein/biochemical techniques such as immunoprecipitation, western blotting * Molecular biology techniques such as PCR, RT-PCR, Q-PCR, sequencing, site-directed mutagenesis, transfection or gene knockdown * Experience with in vitro cell culture of mammalian cell lines * High motivation and level of commitment to achieving scientific goals * High attention to details and ability to carry out routinely high quality work * Understanding of clinical aspects of the research * Willingness to apply for fellowship grants
